JOB DESCRIPTION

Role​ in Brief

Excellent engineering is a critical part of Acasus’ success in rapidly improving health and education services. Our core applications in particular are an important part of driving successful interventions across all of our projects.
Your job as a backend engineer will be to fully own our backend infrastructure, improving our back-end capabilities to be easy-to-maintain with high-availability. You will have the opportunity to apply the latest technologies in meaningful projects that use mobile applications, back-end services, data analysis, and consulting to drive rapid improvements in public health and education services.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include

  • Building back-end services for collecting data at challenging locations, using your up-to-date Node.js and JavaScript expertise;
  • Build and ensure proper maintenance and monitoring of our backend services;
  • Taking part in the integration of mobile and web applications with backend services;
  • Part of the job will be data management, i.e. inputting data securely, figuring out the necessary schemas for new projects and making sure our data pipeline works end-to-end;
  • Working with our consulting team and PO to prioritize features and make iterative improvements;
  • Working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • You will participate in various projects as well (the small number of the team requires that we can all do basic fixes in each other’s projects).

Our ideal back-end engineer will demonstrate

  • Clean coding and testing mindset;
  • Working experience with a relational database (we now use PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (like Firebase Realtime Database or MongoDB);
  • You have experience with at least the basic security requirements for API projects;
  • Experience with Node.js service management, monitoring, memory management, load balancing, etc.;
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.
